Scalloped Potatoes and Ham 🍖
Thin potato slices and smoky ham layered in a silky cheese sauce, the old-fashioned bake that never goes out of style.
Ingredients (serves 6)
- 2.5 lbs potatoes
- 12 oz ham
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 onion
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 2 cloves garlic

Heat oven to 375°F. Slice the potatoes about 1/8 inch thick, dice the ham, and thinly slice the onion.

Melt the butter in a saucepan, cook the minced garlic 30 seconds, then whisk in the flour for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk and simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.

Off the heat, stir in 1.5 cups of cheddar, the thyme, 1 teaspoon salt, and black pepper.

Layer half the potatoes, onion, and ham in a greased 9x13 dish and pour over half the sauce. Repeat with the rest, then top with the remaining cheddar.

Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 45 minutes.

Uncover and bake until the potatoes are fork-tender and the top is browned, 15 to 20 more minutes. Rest 10 minutes before serving.
