Pantry-to-recipe cooking app

The Short Version

Anychef has no accounts and never asks for your name, email, or phone number. Your recipes, pantry, and plans live on your device. To generate recipes we send what you give us — ingredients, preferences, photos of your pantry, questions you type, links you paste — to an AI service through our own server, in real time. That content is not kept afterwards. We do keep a small number of anonymous counters (described below) so we can enforce rate limits, pay creators for the recipe codes they share, and see which setup screens people give up on. None of those counters contain your content or identify you, and the setup measurement can be switched off in Settings.

Information We Collect

Device Identifier: We generate a random, anonymous identifier stored locally on your device to manage rate limits and app functionality. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or any personally identifiable information.

Pantry Photos: When you use the pantry scanner, the photo you take (or choose from your library) is sent to a third-party AI service to detect the food items in it. Photos are processed in real time, are not retained after the response is returned, and only the framed area you choose to scan is sent.

Ingredients and Preferences: To create recipes for you, we send your pantry ingredient list and the preferences you set during onboarding (such as dietary style, allergies and foods to avoid, cooking goals, household size, taste ratings, and any custom requests you type) to a third-party AI service. This information is processed in real time to generate your recipes and is not retained afterwards.

Cooking Assistant Messages: Questions you type to the in-recipe cooking assistant are sent, along with the recipe you are cooking, to the same third-party AI service to generate answers. Messages are processed in real time and are not retained after the response is returned.

Recipe Imports: When you import a recipe by pasting a link, the link is sent to our server, which fetches the publicly available content at that address and sends its text to the AI service to be turned into a recipe card. When you paste recipe text or a caption instead, that text is sent directly to the AI service. In both cases the content is processed in real time and is not retained. We only fetch pages you explicitly paste.

Clipboard Check: On the first launch after you install Anychef, the app checks whether your clipboard appears to contain a web link, so it can offer to import a recipe you were just looking at. iOS asks for your permission before the app can read the clipboard, and the check runs only once. If you decline, or if the clipboard does not contain a recipe link, nothing is read and nothing is sent anywhere.

Recipe Codes: When you redeem a creator's recipe code, the code and your random device identifier are sent to our server so the recipe can be delivered and the redemption counted for that creator. See "What We Keep on Our Servers" below for how long that record lasts.

Setup Progress: While you are setting the app up for the first time, Anychef records which setup screens you reached, how many seconds each one was on screen, whether you tapped back, and whether you finished. It sends that summary to our server so we can find the screens that lose people and fix them. The summary is tagged with a random number generated for that one setup session — it is not your device identifier, is not reused, and cannot be connected to your device identifier, your recipes, your answers, or any later activity. It contains no answers you gave, nothing you typed, and no content of any kind — only screen names and timings. You can turn this off at any time under Settings → Share anonymous usage, and nothing is sent while it is off.

Voice Input: When you add ingredients by voice, your speech is transcribed by Apple's speech recognition. Depending on your device and language settings, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple's own privacy policy. The resulting text is handled like any other ingredient list. Your voice audio is never sent to us or to our AI provider.

Recipe Images: Some recipe photos are generated by an AI image service. To create one, the recipe's title and short description are sent to that service. No personal information is included.

Network Information: Like any internet service, our server receives the IP address your request comes from. We use it only to enforce rate limits and prevent abuse, we do not use it to determine your location, and we do not combine it with anything else about you.

Local Data: Your pantry, generated and saved recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, preferences, and usage counters are stored locally on your device only. We do not upload or have access to this data.

How We Generate Your Recipes

Anychef sends your ingredient list, your preferences (including any dietary restrictions you enter), your pantry photos when you scan, the content of links you paste, and your assistant messages to a third-party AI processing service through our secure server. The service processes this information in real time to return recipes, detected ingredients, or answers. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and the third-party service does not use it to train AI models. The only identifier attached to these requests is the random device identifier described above.

What We Keep on Our Servers

We do not keep the content you send. Photos, ingredient lists, preferences, assistant messages, and imported recipe text are processed in real time and discarded once the response is returned. We are not able to look up what any user has cooked, scanned, or asked.

We do keep a small set of anonymous counters, none of which contain your content or identify you personally:

• Usage counters: a count of requests made by your random device identifier, so we can enforce hourly and monthly limits. These expire automatically — within one hour for hourly counters and roughly one month for monthly counters.
• Rate-limit counters by IP address: a count of requests from a given IP address, kept for one hour and then deleted automatically, to stop automated abuse of our service.
• Recipe code attribution: when you redeem a creator's code, we store a record that a device with your random identifier redeemed that code, so each creator can be credited and paid once per install rather than once per tap. This record contains only the code and the random identifier, and it expires automatically after one year.
• Setup progress records: one row per setup session, holding a random session number, the app version, the setup screens reached, seconds spent on each, and whether setup was finished. There is no device identifier, no IP address, and no content in these rows, so they cannot be traced back to a person or a device. We keep them to compare setup flows over time.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, or any other personally identifiable information. We do not create user accounts. We do not track you across other apps or websites. We do not sell, share, or monetize your data in any way.

Third-Party Services

Anychef uses a third-party AI service to generate recipes, detect ingredients in photos, answer cooking questions, turn imported links into recipe cards, and generate recipe images. This service receives the data described above, processes it in real time, and does not retain it or use it for model training.

Our server runs on Cloudflare, which processes requests on our behalf and stores the anonymous counters described above.

Anychef uses Apple's StoreKit framework to process subscriptions. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple and is never accessible to us. Voice input uses Apple's speech recognition, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Notifications

If you start a free trial, Anychef can schedule a local reminder on your device before the trial ends. This notification is created and delivered entirely on your device; no notification data is sent to us.

Data Storage and Security

Your pantry, recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and preferences are stored locally on your device. Data sent for AI processing is transmitted securely over HTTPS, processed in real time, and not retained by the third-party service. The anonymous counters described above are stored in Cloudflare's key-value storage and expire automatically. If you delete the app, all locally stored data is permanently removed.

Analytics and Advertising

We do not use third-party analytics tools or advertising SDKs. Nothing in Anychef reports to Google Analytics, Firebase, Meta, or any similar service.

We do measure one thing ourselves, on our own server: the anonymous setup-progress summary described above, which tells us which setup screens people abandon. It is not linked to your device identifier or to anything else about you, it is never used for advertising or personalization, it is never sold or shared, and you can switch it off under Settings → Share anonymous usage.

We do not display advertisements in this app. We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, or cross-app tracking of any kind, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Age Requirement

Anychef is intended for users of all ages. We do not collect any personally identifiable information from any user, including children under 13.

Your Choices and Rights

We hold no account, profile, or content for you, so there is nothing on our end tied to your identity to export or correct. The one thing you can switch off directly is the anonymous setup measurement, under Settings → Share anonymous usage. Everything you create lives on your device and is permanently removed when you delete the app. The anonymous counters described above expire on their own — within an hour, a month, or a year depending on the counter — and contain no personal information.

This website (anychefapp.com) is a static site. It does not use cookies, does not run analytics, and does not collect any personal information from visitors.
